At the moment, many statin based drugs lost their patent protection, such as Pfizer’s Lipitor and Merck’s Zocor. However, the patent for Crestor made by AstraZeneca is still valid until May 2016.
The head of the Medical Department of AstraZeneca in the U.S. Philip de Wang noted that AstraZeneca is pleased with the fact that cardiologists finally gave a clear indication who should take statins.
Crestor was approved in more than 100 countries worldwide. However, this drug has side effects and contraindications that should be taken into consideration before starting reception.
The sales of Crestor, which is included in the list of best-selling cardiovascular drugs, exceeded $ 6 billion in 2012.
